A FHF bumper sticker created by a volunteer.
While counseling and support opportunities are a large part of the FHF mission, preventing future fatalities is a primary goal of this group. The FHF organization is multi-faceted.

While members receive bereavement support, the volunteers also support the Highway Patrol and SCDPS in its efforts to educate the public about safety.

Members get involved on many levels including through the speakers’ bureau — speaking at various venues from high schools to churches to spread the word about speed, inattention, buckling up and DUI. FHF members often distribute safety belt literature or anti-DUI messages to their communities. Speakers’ bureau members speak to the media and at news conferences about their loss.

The group has also spearheaded several projects including a bumper sticker urging motorists to “Drive Like Your Life Depends on It.” FHF members Bob and Lisa Radvansky created a poster promoting safety belt use.

Wish you were here to help me celebrate poster The FHF group created a Compassionate Guide booklet, which is given to families when the troopers notify them of a loved one’s death. The booklet was written by FHF members and is meant to be a resource for families as they struggle through those first weeks of shock and confusion.

The Families of Highway Fatalities’ group also holds two blood drives each year to correspond with summer travel when motor vehicle collisions increase and blood donations decrease.
