SENIOR TROOPER JOHN WAYNE VALDARIO JR. NAMED

DISTRICT ONE TROOPER OF THE YEAR

COLUMBIA – The South Carolina Department of Public Safety today named Senior Tpr. John Wayne Valdario Jr. as the Highway Patrol’s District One Trooper of the Year at the agency’s annual Employee Recognition Ceremony.

Valdario has been with the Highway Patrol since 1997. On Sept. 14, 2000, Valdario got a call on an armed robbery at the United Gas Station on U.S. 321. He observed a suspicious vehicle leaving from behind the business on U.S. 321. Instead of immediately responding to the scene of the robbery, Valdario followed the vehicle, which subsequently stopped. Valdario worked alone apprehending the armed robbery suspect.

"Since joining the Patrol three years ago, Senior Tpr. Valdario has proven to be conscientious and dependable in performing his duties," said Highway Patrol Col. Ralph Mobley. "He is well-respected by his supervisors, fellow troopers and his community and is dedicated to the mission of the Department of Public Safety."

Valdario and his wife, Chandra, have one daughter and they attend Grace Baptist Church in Lexington.
