FATALITY REPORT: DPS REPORTS FIVE KILLED

ON SOUTH CAROLINA HIGHWAYS JANUARY 14 - 16

COLUMBIA – The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of five people killed on South Carolina highways from Friday, January 14, at 6 p.m. until Sunday, January 16, at midnight.

Three fatalities resulted from single-vehicle collisions, and one person was killed in a two-vehicle collision. One person was killed when a car struck the motorcycle he was riding. Two of the four motor vehicle occupants killed were not wearing seat belts.

Seat belts used one fatality
Seat belts not used two fatalities
Seat belt usage unknown one fatality
Seat belt usage not applicable one fatality (motorcyclist – helmet usage unknown)
