DPS UNVEILS UPDATED WEB SITE
COLUMBIA The South Carolina Department of Public Safety today launched its updated web site. DPS would like to invite the public to log onto http://www.state.sc.us/dps/ to learn more about our diverse agency, which is primarily responsible for licensing and registering all the states motor vehicles and helping maintain safety and security for the governor, state offices and courts and for ensuring safety on our highways.
DPS is comprised of nearly 3,000 employees and includes seven major divisions including: the Highway Patrol, State Transport Police, Bureau of Protective Services, Division of Motor Vehicles, Office of Highway Safety, Office of Justice Programs and Criminal Justice Academy.
Portions of the web site are still under construction. But DPS encourages customers, particularly those seeking to make DMV transactions, to consult the web site for helpful information that may save them time and a visit to DMV. Many DMV transactions can be conducted by mail or phone. Many of the most common DMV forms can also be downloaded from the web site.
"We are proud of our new and updated web site," said B. Boykin Rose, DPS Director. "We hope to eventually increase the scope of services we can offer customers through the Internet. We encourage the public to contact our web site manager with any comments or suggestions on ways we can make our site more user-friendly."
The site is created and maintained through the DPS Office of Executive Affairs. The public is encouraged to contact Web Site Manager Scott Poovey with any questions or comments at poovey_prestons@scdps.state.sc.us.
