SEN. PEELER INJURED IN ACCIDENT
COLUMBIA State Sen. Harvey Peeler, R-Gaffney, was injured in a single-car accident early Friday as he was en-route home from a late-night session of the South Carolina Senate.
The accident occurred shortly after 8:30 a.m. on State Road 18, some eight miles South of Gaffney. At the time of the accident, Sen. Peeler apparently ran off the left side of the two-lane roadway, struck a fire hydrant and an abandoned house. Sen. Peeler, the brother of Lt. Gov. Bob Peeler, was the lone occupant of the vehicle.
Sen. Peeler, who was wearing a seat belt, was transported to the Upstate Carolina Regional Medical Center in Gaffney, where he underwent a series of tests. Doctors decided to keep Sen. Peeler at the Medical Center, at least overnight, for observation.
The accident is being investigated by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
