FATALITY REPORT: DPS REPORTS 13 KILLED

ON SOUTH CAROLINA HIGHWAYS MAY 12-14

COLUMBIA – The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of 13 people killed on South Carolina highways from Friday, May 12, at 6 p.m. until Sunday, May 14, at midnight.

Two pedestrians were struck and killed, including a 4-year-old child who was hit by two cars travelling in opposite directions when she walked into the road. Another person was killed when a person ran a stop sign and struck another vehicle. Seven people were killed when their vehicles left the road and struck a tree or pole. Two people were killed in a head-on collision. Another was killed when a tire on the vehicle blew out, causing the vehicle to roll over and eject the driver.

So far, 377 people have died on South Carolina highways this year, compared to 353 last year at this time.
