COLUMBIA – The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces the following:

Who: Highway Patrol, State Transport Police, Bureau of Protective Services, and Criminal

Justice Academy

What: DPS hosts 50 high school students as part of the Federal Highway Administration’s

Summer Transportation Institute sponsored by Benedict College and South Carolina

State University. Students will get to see demonstrations of various equipment used by

DPS officers as well as the equipment and tactics used in training officers.

When: Wednesday, June 21, 9 a.m.- 3p.m.

Where: DPS, 5400 Broad River Road

• 9 a.m.-10 a.m.: Highway Patrol Classroom, Room 111, Introduction
• 10:15 a.m.-Noon: Firing Range: Demonstrations on Firearms Training System, BPS and Highway Patrol bomb and drug dogs; Highway Patrol CERT (Civil Emergency Response) Team
• Noon-1 p.m.: Lunch at the driving range
• 1 p.m.-3:30 p.m.: Various law enforcement exhibits (parking lot directly off Broad River Road)
