FATALITY REPORT: DPS REPORTS SEVEN KILLED
ON SOUTH CAROLINA HIGHWAYS JUNE 23-25
COLUMBIA The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of seven people killed on South Carolina highways from Friday, June23, at 6 p.m. until Sunday, June 25, at midnight.
Four people died in a head-on collision on South Carolina 23 early Friday evening. Alcohol is suspected of being a contributing factor to the four deaths in that collision. The driver and a passenger in the front seat were wearing seat belts at the time of the collision. A pedestrian was struck and killed on U.S. 76 outside of Belton. And a motorcyclist died after the cycle ran off the road on a sharp curve on Ball Park Road on St. Helena Island. The seventh fatality was recorded in Kershaw County, where a vehicle overturned and a passenger died. So far this year, 519 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 476 at this time last year.
