GOVERNORS OFFICE, S.C. DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY
COLUMBIA Gov. Jim Hodges joined South Carolina Department of Public Safety Director Boykin
Rose on Thursday to preview public service announcements about Click It or Ticket, a massive seatbelt enforcement campaign beginning this month.
Around 230 local law enforcement agencies are joining state law enforcement to hold more than 2,000 public safety checkpoints from November 20-December 3 in an effort to increase seat belt usage and save lives.
"Click It or Ticket is a get-tough approach to saving lives, but we also want to be fair to motorists," said Gov. Jim Hodges. "Law enforcement is working hard to spread the word about this campaign to ensure that no motorist is taken by surprise if stopped at a checkpoint."
The paid radio and television public service announcements will begin airing statewide on November 13. The PSAs advise motorists that law enforcement will be conducting multiple checkpoints in every county in the state. Law enforcement will have zero tolerance for people not buckled up or people who do not have their children properly restrained.
"The checkpoints associated with Click It or Ticket are focused primarily on making sure people are buckled up and that children are properly restrained," said DPS Director B. Boykin Rose. "Our goal is to move motorists through the checkpoints as safely and quickly as possible."
Checkpoint locations are posted on the DPS web site at www.scdps.org. Checkpoints will be conducted in safe areas and motorists will see signs indicating that a checkpoint is ahead. Motorists are encouraged to have their license and registration ready for the officer.
For more information on Click It or Ticket, please log on to the DPS web site at www.scdps.org. Major checkpoints will be noted. These checkpoints will typically have someone available to talk with the media. Checkpoint times and locations are subject to change without notice.
