DPS REPORTS EIGHT KILLED ON SOUTH CAROLINA

HIGHWAYS DURING THANKSGIVING WEEKEND

COLUMBIA – The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of eight people killed on South Carolina highways from Wednesday, November 22, at 6 p.m. until Sunday, November 26, at midnight. Fourteen people died on South Carolina’s highways during the Thanksgiving holiday period in 1999.

Three people were killed when an ambulance headed to an emergency broadsided a vehicle, which had cut into its path. Another woman was killed in a three-vehicle crash. Another woman was killed when she lost control of her car in a curve, was ejected from the car, which caught fire. Another man died after hitting a deer, then losing control of his car and hitting a telephone pole. One man died when his car ran off a bridge and overturned into a marsh. One man died in a two-vehicle crash.

So far, 964 people have been killed on South Carolina highways this year, compared to 969 at this time last year.
