FATALITY REPORT: DPS REPORTS SIX KILLED
ON SOUTH CAROLINA HIGHWAYS MARCH 9-11
COLUMBIA The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of six people killed on South Carolina highways from Friday, March 9, at 6 p.m. until Sunday, March 11, at midnight.
A driver and passenger were killed when their vehicle collided with another vehicle. One man was killed after he crossed into the path of a dump truck. One motorcyclist was killed when a woman turned in front of him. He was not wearing a helmet. One man died when his vehicle ran off the road, struck a tree and overturned. A Richmond, Va., woman was struck and killed as she attempted to cross the street. The driver, who fled the scene of the collision, is being charged with reckless homicide and leaving the scene of an accident with death.
As of March 11, 164 people had died on South Carolina highways, compared to 188 last year at this time.
