FATALITY REPORT: DPS REPORTS EIGHT KILLED
ON SOUTH CAROLINA HIGHWAYS MARCH 16 - 18

COLUMBIA – The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of eight people killed on South Carolina highways from Friday, March 16, at 6 p.m. until Sunday, March 18, at midnight.

Five people died in separate single-vehicle collisions. In all five collisions, the drivers lost control of their vehicles, ran off the road and overturned. Two motorcyclists were killed. One struck a raised concrete median and then a traffic sign. The other motorcyclist collided with a pickup truck. Neither motorcyclist was wearing a helmet. One pedestrian was struck and killed.

As of March 18, 184 people had died on South Carolina highways, compared to 208 last year at this time.
