FATALITY REPORT: DPS REPORTS SIX KILLED

ON SOUTH CAROLINA HIGHWAYS AUGUST 3 - 5

COLUMBIA – The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of six people killed on South Carolina highways from Friday, August 3, at 6 p.m. until Sunday, August 5, at midnight.

Three people died in separate single-vehicle collisions in Aiken, Anderson and Florence Counties. Two others died in separate two-vehicle collisions in Darlington and Greenville Counties. Both of those collisions resulted from failure to yield the right of way. Another person was killed when the motorcycle he was driving collided with a van in Lexington County. Only one of the motor vehicle occupants killed was wearing a seat belt.

As of August 5, 559 people had died on South Carolina highways, compared to 653 last year at this time.
