FATALITY REPORT: DPS REPORTS NINE KILLED
ON SOUTH CAROLINA HIGHWAYS SEPT. 7 9
COLUMBIA The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of nine people killed on South Carolina highways from Friday, Sept.7, at 6 p.m. until Sunday, Sept. 9, at midnight.
Four people died in one collision in Beaufort County on SC 170, when one vehicle attempted to pass another vehicle. The driver of the car attempting to pass lost control of his vehicle and slid into the path of an oncoming vehicle. All four occupants of the vehicle attempting the pass were killed. Another motorist was killed when the vehicle he was driving struck a tree. Three pedestrians were struck and killed by vehicles and a motorcyclist died when he collided with a vehicle.
As of September 9, 665 people had died on South Carolina highways, compared to 732 last year at this time.
