FATALITY REPORT: DPS REPORTS 11 KILLED

ON SOUTH CAROLINA HIGHWAYS SEPTEMBER 21 - 23

COLUMBIA – The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of 11 people killed on South Carolina highways from Friday, September 21, at 6 p.m. until Sunday, September 23, at midnight.

Three people died in three separate single-vehicle collisions. Four people died in two separate two-vehicle collisions. Four pedestrians were struck and killed in separate collisions. In two of those collisions, the drivers fled the scene after striking the pedestrians. None of the motor vehicle occupants killed was wearing a seatbelt.

As of September 23, 721 people had died on South Carolina highways, compared to 779 last year at this time.
