HIGHWAY PATROL SEIZES DRUGS,
CURRENCY IN I-85 STOPS TOTALING $258,500

COLUMBIA - The South Carolina Department of Public Safety Highway Patrol has seized nearly $258,500 in drugs and U.S. currency after four separate traffic stops on I-85 in Greenville County this week by the ACE team.

The first stop was on Monday at 10:35 p.m. on I-85 Northbound at the 48 mile marker. Harrison F. Glover, 62, of West Hartford, Connecticut, was travelling from Alabama to Connecticut. The Highway Patrol stopped his 1994 Cadillac for an improper lane change. They found six grams of cocaine with a street value of $480 and $1,470 in a plastic bag. Glover has been charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine.

The second stop was on Tuesday at 1 a.m. on I-85 Northbound at the 45 mile marker. James Aaron Shuff, 39, Mt. Airy, N.C., was travelling from Atlanta to Mt. Airy when the Highway Patrol stopped the 1999 Chrysler for improper tag display. They found 12 grams of marijuana, and $1,990 in U.S. currency in a plastic bag in Shuff’s shoe. The marijuana has a street value of $960. Shuff was charged with simple possession of marijuana.

The third stop was on Tuesday at 9:45 p.m. on I-85 Northbound at the 46 mile marker. Driver Thomas Gregg McDaniel, 24, of Winston Salem, N.C., and passenger Donte Tormane Lawrence, 22,Winston Salem, N.C., were travelling from Atlanta to Winston Salem. The Highway Patrol stopped the 2000 Ford for an improper lane change. They found 12 ounces of cocaine, 20 grams of marijuana and $2,950 in currency stashed in plastic bags in the trunk of the vehicle. The men have been charged with trafficking cocaine, simple possession marijuana and unlawful carrying of pistol. The cocaine had a street value of $89,040 and the marijuana had a street value of $1,600. The case has been adopted by the Drug Enforcement Administration.

The fourth stop was on Thursday at 12:55 a.m. on I-85 Northbound at the 42 mile marker. Steven Louis Gilliam, 28, of Wellford, S.C., was travelling from Georgia to South Carolina in a rental car when the Highway Patrol stopped the 2001 Dodge for speeding and an expired tag. They found 40 pounds of marijuana in trash bags in the trunk of the car. Gilliam has been charged with trafficking marijuana. The marijuana had a street value of $160,000.
