FATALITY REPORT: DPS REPORTS EIGHT KILLED
ON SOUTH CAROLINA HIGHWAYS OCTOBER 12-14
COLUMBIA The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of eight people killed on South Carolina highways from Friday, October 12, at 6 p.m. until Sunday, October 14, at midnight.
Two pedestrians were struck and killed. One man died when his vehicle left the road, hit an embankment and overturned. One person died when his vehicle hit another head-on, ejecting him. Two people died in separate crashes when their cars ran off the road and struck a tree. One person died after being ejected when his vehicle ran off the road, hit a bridge and went airborne. A 13-year-old girl died when the vehicle she was driving overturned, ejecting her. None of those killed was wearing a seatbelt and four were ejected from their cars.
So far, 776 have died on South Carolina highways this year compared to 847 at this time last year.
