FATALITY REPORT: DPS REPORTS EIGHT KILLED

ON SOUTH CAROLINA HIGHWAYS OCTOBER 19 - 21

COLUMBIA – The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of eight people killed on South Carolina highways from Friday, October 19, at 6 p.m. until Sunday, October 21, at midnight.

An eleven-year-old and five-year-old sister and brother died Saturday morning in Aiken County when the go-cart they were driving pulled out of their driveway and into the path of a car on Bogeyville Road. A motorcyclist, who was not wearing a helmet, was killed when he lost control of his motorcycle. Three people died in separate single-vehicle collisions. All three victims were either partially or completely ejected during the collisions. Two people were killed in separate two-vehicle collisions. Alcohol was a factor in three of the fatal collisions. None of those killed was wearing a seatbelt.

As of October 21, 795 people had died on South Carolina highways, compared to 861 last year at this time.
