FATALITY REPORT: DPS REPORTS NINE KILLED
ON SOUTH CAROLINA HIGHWAYS NOVEMBER 16 - 18
COLUMBIA The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of nine people killed on South Carolina highways from Friday, November 16, at 6 p.m. until Sunday, November 18, at midnight.
Two pedestrians were struck and killed in separate collisions. Two people died in separate two-vehicle collisions. The driver in one of those collisions died after he made a left turn in front of an oncoming vehicle and was struck by that vehicle. Another driver was killed when the pickup truck he was driving crossed the centerline and struck a tractor trailer head on. Two people were killed in two separate but related single-vehicle collisions caused when one of those vehicles tried to change lanes on I-95. Both vehicles ran off the road and overturned, killing a passenger in each of the vehicles. Three people died in separate single-vehicle collisions. Three of the motor vehicle occupants killed this weekend were wearing seat belts. Drivers in two of the fatal collisions were charged with felony DUI.
As of November 18, 892 people had died on South Carolina highways, compared to 953 last year at this time.
