STATE TRANSPORT POLICE PROMOTES FOUR OFFICERS
COLUMBIA The South Carolina Department of Public Safetys State Transport Police division announces the promotion of four of its officers. A. D. Tinsley and N. Moore have been promoted to lieutenant and J. C. Brooks, Jr., and A. A. Johnson have been promoted to corporal. The promotions were effective November 17.
Tinsley will serve as the upper state region lieutenant, overseeing all enforcement activities in STP Districts One, Two, Three and Four. He previously served as a sergeant in District Three. He joined the Highway Patrol in 1972 and transferred to the size and weight unit in 1987. As a result of state government restructuring in 1993, he transferred to the newly created State Transport Police. Tinsley was promoted to corporal in 1995 and to sergeant in 1999.
A native of Greenville, Tinsley is a graduate of Wade Hampton High School and attended Clemson University. He holds an associates degree in criminal justice from Greenville Tech. Tinsley and his wife Jane are the parents of two daughters and currently reside in Powdersville. He is the son of Arlie and Clara Tinsley of Greenville.
"Lt. Tinsley is very capable of doing the job," said STP Col. Anna Amos. "We look forward to the knowledge and experience he brings to the table that will help propel STP into the future."
Moore will serve as the administrative lieutenant overseeing all administrative functions of STP headquarters as well as the coordination of the divisions training, employment and supply needs in which he was involved with as sergeant. He joined the Highway Patrol in 1984. In 1994 he transferred to the State Transport Police. In 1995 he was assigned to the Commercial Vehicle Investigative Unit (CVI) and was promoted to corporal in 1996 and to sergeant in 2000.
A native of Cheraw, Moore is a graduate of Cheraw High School and attended Benedict College. Prior to joining the Highway Patrol, he served as an officer with the Chesterfield Sheriffs Department. Moore and his wife Ethel have two children, Quinton and Donovan. They currently reside in Columbia and attend First Northeast Baptist Church. Moore is the son of Jake and Frances Moore of Hamden, Connecticut.
"Lt. Moore has a quality and style that permeates quietly through the Division but is very effective in getting things done," Amos said. "We welcome him as a part of the management team at Headquarters."
Brooks will serve as a corporal in STP District Four. He joined the Highway Patrol in 1990 and transferred to the size and weight unit in 1992. As a result of state government restructuring in 1993, he transferred to the newly created State Transport Police.
A native of Lithonia, Ga., Brooks is a graduate of Easley High School in Easley and obtained an associates degree from Greenville Tech. Brooks and his wife Cathy have one son, Harrison. They currently reside in York and attend St. Paul United Methodist Church. Brooks is the son of Jerry and Sue Brooks of Columbus, NC.
"Cpl. Brooks demonstrated that he was the right person for the job by gaining the respect of his co-workers and supervisors," Amos said. "We are excited for what he will bring to District Four and the STP Division."
Johnson will serve as a corporal in the commercial vehicle investigative/hazardous materials unit. He joined the Highway Patrol in 1987 and transferred to the newly created State Transport Police in 1993.
A native of Dillon, Johnson is a graduate of Dillon High School and obtained a bachelors degree from Coker College. He is married with two children and currently resides in Bishopville, where he attends Kelleytown Baptist Church.
"Cpl. Johnson is a dynamic young man," Amos said. "I look forward to seeing what his talents and skills will bring to the HazMat Unit, both as a supervisor and as a highly trained inspector of hazardous materials."
