FATALITY REPORT: DPS REPORTS NINE KILLED
ON SOUTH CAROLINA HIGHWAYS FEBRUARY 2 - 4
COLUMBIA The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of nine people killed on South Carolina highways from Friday, February 2, at 6 p.m. until Sunday, February 4, at midnight.
Four people were killed in three separate two-vehicle collisions and three people died in separate single-vehicle collisions. One pedestrian was struck and killed. One motorcyclist was killed when he lost control of his motorcycle and struck a utility pole. The motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet. Four of the seven motor vehicle occupants killed were wearing seat belts.
As of February 4, 73 people had died on South Carolina highways, compared to 92 last year at this time.
