SCDPS PROMOTES SANDRA MCLEOD TO LIEUTENANT;
FIRST FEMALE LT. IN THE HIGHWAY PATROL

COLUMBIA - The South Carolina Department of Public Safety today announced that Sandra F. McLeod has been promoted to the rank of lieutenant. She is the first female to achieve the rank of lieutenant within the Highway Patrol. The promotion was effective March 2.

McLeod will continue to work in the South Carolina Highway Patrol Headquarters in Columbia, where she coordinates budgetary activities, including procurement and accounting issues, for the Highway Patrol.

“Lt. McLeod has a well-deserved reputation for professionalism and dedication to duty,” said Col. Mike Kelley, South Carolina Highway Patrol. “She has worked hard to earn the respect and trust of her fellow troopers.”

McLeod has served with the Highway Patrol since 1985. She was a trooper in Camden from 1987 to 1994, when she joined the Training staff at Highway Patrol Headquarters. McLeod was promoted to the rank of corporal in 1995 and to sergeant in 2000.

Born in Augsburg, Germany, McLeod is a graduate of Lugoff Elgin High School. She currently resides in Camden with her husband Frank McLeod Jr. They have two children: Courtney, 20, and Ashley, 22. She is a member of Bethel Pentecostal Holiness Church, the S.C. Troopers Association and the American Troopers Association.

There are currently 886 troopers, 29 of whom are female, serving on the Highway Patrol.
