FATALITY REPORT: DPS REPORTS NINE KILLED

ON SOUTH CAROLINA HIGHWAYS APRIL 12 - 14

COLUMBIA -- The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of nine people killed on South Carolina highways from Friday, April 12, at 6 p.m. until Sunday, April 14, at midnight.

Five people died in separate single-vehicle collisions. In each of the five collisions the driver lost control of the vehicle and the vehicle overturned and/or struck a tree. Four people died in three separate two-vehicle collisions, one of which was a head-on collision in which both drivers were killed. Only one person killed was wearing a seat belt.

As of April 14, 264 people had died on South Carolina highways, compared to 274 last year at this time.
