FATALITY REPORT: DPS REPORTS TWO KILLED
ON SOUTH CAROLINA HIGHWAYS MAY 10 - 12
COLUMBIA -- The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of two people killed on South Carolina highways from Friday, May 10, at 6 p.m. until Sunday, May 12, at midnight.
A Pacolet Mills man died early Saturday, May 11, as a result of a head-on collision on Southport Road in Spartanburg County that occurred shortly before midnight on May 10. A Batesburg-Leesville man died early Saturday morning after falling off of a moped and being hit by a vehicle. Both collisions remain under investigation.
As of May 12, 336 people had died on South Carolina highways, compared to 364 last year at this time. Through May 13, 285 of the 336 people who have died on South Carolina’s roads and highways had access to seat belts. Of those 285 people, only 85 were wearing some type of safety restraint device.
