COLUMBIA - The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces the following Fasten For Life event:

Who: S.C. Department of Public Safety in partnership with Richland County Sheriff's Dept./Coroner's Office

What: Child safety seat inspection and installation (this is meant to be a public service effort to teach parents how to properly install safety seats; citations will not be issued)

** In the United States, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has discovered about 80 percent of all child restraint devices used are placed in the vehicle improperly. In recent child safety clinics held in South Carolina, safety seat technicians found about 98 percent of the seats they checked were improperly installed.
