MEDIA ADVISORY

COLUMBIA - The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces the following plans for the visitation, memorial service and burial (including media guidelines) for Cpl. Kenneth Johnson who was killed in the line of duty Sunday, July 7:

Media guidelines for funeral service:

The family has requested that the media not film in the church during the funeral. Media who want to get shots outside the church are asked to park at the K-Mart (please do not broadcast -- for media parking only), which is adjacent to the church. At the burial, media are asked to have your equipment trucks enter the cemetery from Memory Lane off of U.S. 17A. Parking for ALL news media will be located directly behind the white house located in the cemetery. Directions to the cemetery as follows: Proceed up U.S. 52 to Cypress Gardens Road and turn left. Go all the way to the other end of Cypress Gardens Road and turn left. Memory Lane is on the right about 500 feet from Cypress Gardens Road on the right. It is a dirt road that runs around the back of the cemetery. You will see the lot behind the white house. Please do not enter the cemetery from the main entrance because the procession will be coming through there and space is going to be extremely limited. We will provide you an adequate place to get the shots you need.

Media representatives from DPS will be available to assist you at the cemetery. If you have questions regarding parking/coverage tomorrow, please direct those to L/Cpl. Paul Brouthers, 1-800-202-9286. Troopers will be on hand at the funeral and burial sites to direct traffic and assist with parking.

Thank you for your continued cooperation.
