FATALITY REPORT: DPS REPORTS SIX KILLED
ON SOUTH CAROLINA HIGHWAYS AUGUST 2 - 4

COLUMBIA -- The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of six people killed on South Carolina highways from Friday, August 2, at 6 p.m. until Sunday, August 4, at midnight.

A pedestrian was struck and killed early Saturday morning in Greenville County. A woman was killed in a single-vehicle collision early Saturday morning in Darlington County when the vehicle in which she was riding overturned. The driver of that vehicle has been charged with felony DUI. A man died in a single-vehicle collision Saturday evening in Williamsburg County when he lost control of his vehicle and ran off the road. The vehicle overturned and caught fire. A motorcyclist was killed Saturday evening after losing control of his motorcycle. He was not wearing a helmet. A man was killed in a single-vehicle collision early Sunday morning in Aiken County when he lost control of his vehicle and overturned several times. A man died in a single-vehicle collision Sunday evening in Richland County when his vehicle ran off the road and overturned.

As of August 4, 613 people had died on South Carolina highways, compared to 611 last year at this time. Of the 489 motor vehicle occupants who have died so far this year, 353 were not wearing seat belts.
