FATALITY REPORT: DPS REPORTS FIVE KILLED
ON SOUTH CAROLINA HIGHWAYS SEPTEMBER 6-8
COLUMBIA -- The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of five people killed on South Carolina highways September 6-8.
One person died when his vehicle ran off the road and struck a tree. One man died after his wheelchair rolled into oncoming traffic. A motorcyclist was struck from behind and killed as he stopped to make a turn. Two people died in separate crashes when their vehicles ran off the road, overturning.
As of September 8, 703 people had died on South Carolina highways, compared to 730 last year at this time. Of the 566 motor vehicle occupants who were killed, 409 were not wearing seat belts.
