COLUMBIA - The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces the following event:
Who: South Carolina Department of Public Safety
What: Second Annual Governor’s Highway Safety Conference. This year’s theme is “Drive Like Your Life Depends On It.” The three-day conference will bring together safety experts, law enforcement and industry representatives to focus on topics such as aggressive driving, engineering/work zones and traffic safety enforcement strategies.
When: September 15-18 (Sunday through Wednesday)

Tuesday (Sept. 17) session summaries:
Fake Id:
This gives an overview of a fast-paced multi-media program designed for middle and high school students. The program focuses on alcohol and other drug prevention programs showing the effects of alcohol on the adolescent brain and how it affects a person's action when impaired.
DUI/Alcohol -- Drug Recognition Expert:
This workshop will provide a power point presentation on the effects of drinking and driving, focus on efforts to reduce the underage drinking problem and show the success of the Drug Recognition Expert program.
Traffic Safety Enforcement:
This session will outline effective traffic safety enforcement strategies, which include the apprehension of aggressive drivers.
Commercial Motor Vehicles:
This workshop will provide an overview of the South Carolina State Transport Police and its role in making the highways safer. This will include discussion of transportation changes in commercial motor vehicle travel.
Data/Global Positioning System/Accident Reporting Use and Analysis:
This workshop will cover the collection and use of traffic collision data obtained from the TR-310 Reporting Forms completed by traffic officers in the field. The South Carolina Collision and Ticket Tracking System will be covered in the workshop as well as the procurement and future use of Global Positioning Devises (GPS).
