COLUMBIA -- The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of six people killed on South Carolina highways from Friday, November 8, at 6 p.m. until Sunday, November 10, at midnight.
One person died early Saturday morning in Spartanburg County when his vehicle ran off the road, struck an embankment and overturned. One person died Saturday morning in Calhoun County in a head-on collision. One person died Saturday evening in Dorchester County when his vehicle ran off the road and struck a tree. A pedestrian died in a hit and run collision in Aiken County Saturday evening. Another pedestrian was struck and killed Saturday night in Dillon County. One person died Sunday morning in Colleton County when his vehicle ran off the road and struck a tree.
As of November 11, 873 people had died on South Carolina highways, compared to 923 last year at this time. Of the 700 motor vehicle occupants who have died so far this year, 499 were not wearing seat belts.
