HODGES ANNOUNCES GRANTS TO ASSIST CRIMINAL JUSTICE AGENCIES
COLUMBIA – Gov. Jim Hodges has announced the award of additional grant funds for a one-time program to provide bulletproof vests to state and local law enforcement agencies. The U.S. Justice Department, under the Drug Control and System Improvement Program, awarded the $408,136 grant to the Governor’s Office. The South Carolina Department of Public Safety's Office of Justice Programs will administer the grant program on behalf of the Governor's Office.
Guidelines allow agencies with mandatory wear policies to use these funds for the purchase of bulletproof vests for officers currently without vests or to replace outdated vests.
“This grant award will support efforts to provide better protection of our law enforcement officers in their continued efforts to reduce violence and drug-related crime,” Hodges said.
