COLUMBIA - The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces the following media opportunity:

Who: S.C. Department of Public Safety, Solicitor’s Office, area Detention Center representatives and local law enforcement

What: DPS kicks off Operation Sober or Slammer, a statewide DUI enforcement initiative: news conference to begin at 11 a.m., immediately following the news conference, media will be shown the process of a DUI arrest beginning outside the detention center with the “stop and arrest” and proceeding into the detention center for the “datamaster test, booking process and lock-up” (this demonstration is meant to educate people about what they can expect if arrested for a DUI. The demonstration should not take more than 20 minutes - please see attachments for the agenda).

When: Wednesday, December 18, 2002, 11 a.m. in each location; DUI arrest demonstration to begin immediately after news conference
