MEDIA ADVISORY

COLUMBIA - The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces that the Rock Hill DMV Office, 305 Hands Mill Road, and the York County Complex, 1070 Heckle Blvd., were broken into last night.

The DMV at the York County Complex opened up to the public at 9:20 a.m. today. The office is able to provide full customer service.

Equipment and cables were damaged at the Hands Mill Road location. Road tests will be administered at the Hands Mill location and the applicants will be sent to York County to have driver’s license credentials made.

Early this morning the York County Sheriff's Department responded to an alarm at the DMV office in the York County Complex. L/Cpl. Oliver Milhouse with the South Carolina Highway Patrol was on duty at the time in the area and requested that the York County Sheriff's Office send a deputy out to check the Newport DMV office. The deputy arrived and saw a person inside the office. The deputy was spotted by the individual, who dropped the computer equipment he was carrying and fled. The deputy chased him on foot for some distance before calling for assistance. The department's K-9 unit was brought in. The dogs tracked the person for some time before losing him. Shortly thereafter, York County Sheriff's deputies stopped a man walking in the area and subsequently arrested that individual.

All media inquiries regarding the incidents need to be directed to the State Law Enforcement Division, which is conducting the investigation.
