COLUMBIA -- The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of three people killed on South Carolina highways from Friday, February 28, at 6 p.m. until Sunday, March 2, at midnight.
A man died Saturday morning in a two-vehicle collision in Charleston County. Another man died Saturday afternoon in Beaufort County when the vehicle in which he was riding ran off the road, struck a tree and overturned. A woman died Sunday evening in a three-vehicle collision in Lexington County. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in two of the collisions.
As of March 2, 103 people had died on South Carolina highways, compared to 152 last year at this time. Of the 83 motor vehicle occupants who have died in 2003, 57 were not wearing seat belts.
