FATALITY REPORT: DPS REPORTS FOUR KILLED 

ON SOUTH CAROLINA HIGHWAYS APRIL 18-20

 

COLUMBIA -- The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of four people killed on South Carolina highways from Friday, April l8, at 6 p.m. until Sunday, April 20, at midnight.

 

A Savannah, Ga., man has been charged with three counts of Felony Driving Under the Influence as a result of a two-vehicle collision on Interstate 95. The collision, which occurred early Saturday in Jasper County, claimed the life of a Florida man and left two others from the same vehicle in the hospital. One person died after her vehicle ran off the road and struck a culvert around midday Saturday in Horry County. A motorcyclist died after colliding with another vehicle Saturday afternoon in Colleton County. Another person died after his vehicle ran off the road and struck a tree early Sunday morning in Greenville County.

 

As of April 20, 216 people had died on South Carolina highways, compared to 296 last year at this time. Of the 183 motor vehicle occupants who have died in 2003, 125 were not wearing seat belts.
