COLUMBIA -- The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of five people killed on South Carolina highways from Friday, June 6, 2003, at 6 p.m. until Sunday, June 8, at midnight.
A Dorchester woman was killed Sunday when her vehicle ran off the road and struck a tree. A Spartanburg man was killed Saturday when his vehicle struck a pole. A 21-year-old Orangeburg woman was killed when she lost control of her vehicle on Saturday running into a ditch and overturning. An Anderson woman was killed Saturday when her car struck a brick wall. A Greenwood man was killed Saturday in a two-vehicle collision.
As of June 6, 2003, 359 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 441 last year. Of the 359 motor vehicle occupants who died in 2003, 193 were not wearing seat belts.
