COLUMBIA – The South Carolina Department of Public Safety named Corporal T.E. Moore the South Carolina Highway Patrol Troop 7 Trooper of the Year at a June 23 ceremony.
Moore is currently stationed in Troop 7, Post A (Allendale, Bamberg, Hampton) where he is a supervisor. He joined the Highway Patrol in 1997, stationed in Aiken County. He was assigned to Barnwell County in 1999 and Aiken/Barnwell in January 2002.
“The seven years that he has been part of the South Carolina Highway Patrol, Cpl. Moore has excelled in enforcement efforts in every way possible,” said Highway Patrol Col. Russell F. Roark. “He performs his duties at a level that encourages peak performance from his peers while at the same time possessing traits of loyalty and dependability toward the organization.”
Moore grew up in the small town of Hilda, South Carolina, in Barnwell County. As a teen-ager, his family moved to Barnwell where he attended high school. During his senior year, he met someone who inspired him to become a state trooper. Trooper R.T. Dixon, who was stationed in the area at the time, chaperoned Moore and his high school class on a trip to Myrtle Beach. Tommy was impressed with the appearance of the uniform and the professional way in which the trooper carried himself. He began asking questions about how to become a state trooper.
After graduating high school in 1990, Moore enrolled in college at Orangeburg/Calhoun Technical College where he graduated with an associate’s degree in criminal justice. In 1997, he was accepted into the Highway Patrol class and upon completion was stationed in Aiken County. He has been recognized for his enforcement efforts through various awards and by being assigned to specialized enforcement teams. Along with his dedication and outstanding record in enforcement duties, he is courteous and conscientious in relating to the public. His devotion to duty and attention to detail are outstanding and his enthusiasm is an inspiration to others.
Moore is a Barnwell native where he currently resides with his wife, Tiffany, and two children, Kortney, 10, and TJ, 2.
