FATALITY REPORT: DPS REPORTS 16 KILLED 

ON SOUTH CAROLINA HIGHWAYS JUNE 30-JULY 4, 2006

 

COLUMBIA -- The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of 16 people killed on South Carolina highways from Friday, June 30, at 6 p.m. until Tuesday, July 4, at midnight.

 

As of July 4, 2006, 485 people died on South Carolina highways, compared to 554 in 2005. Of the 367 motor vehicle occupants who died in 2006, 242 were not wearing seat belts. These are preliminary numbers and are subject to change.
