COLUMBIA -- The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of ten people killed on South Carolina highways from Friday, August 4, at 6 p.m. until Sunday, August 6, at midnight.
As of August 6, 2006, 573 people died on South Carolina highways, compared to 668 in 2005. Of the 428 motor vehicle occupants who died in 2006, 274 were not wearing seat belts. These are preliminary numbers and are subject to change.
