COLUMBIA -- The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of six people killed on South Carolina highways from Friday, September 8, at 6 p.m. until Sunday, September 10, at midnight.
As of September 10, 2006, 682 people died on South Carolina highways, compared to 777 in 2005. Of the 511 motor vehicle occupants who died in 2006, 331 were not wearing seat belts. These are preliminary numbers and are subject to change.
