COLUMBIA -- The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of nine people killed on South Carolina highways from Friday, September 22, at 6 p.m. until Sunday, September 24, at midnight.
As of September 24, 2006, 731 people died on South Carolina highways, compared to 807 in 2005. Of the 548 motor vehicle occupants who died in 2006, 351 were not wearing seat belts. These are preliminary numbers and are subject to change.
