COLUMBIA -- The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of six people killed on South Carolina highways from Friday, October 6, at 6 p.m. until Sunday, October 8, at midnight.
As of October 8, 2006, 796 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 845 in 2005. Of the 590 motor vehicle occupants who died in 2006, 372 were not wearing seat belts. These are preliminary numbers and are subject to change.
