BPS PROMOTES GORDON TO SERGEANT
COLUMBIA – The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announced that Tammy Gordon has been promoted to the rank of Sergeant with the Bureau of Protective Services (BPS). The promotion was effective in mid-September.
"Sergeant Gordon has played a vital role in the success and professional growth of the Governor’s Mansion Operations. She has definitely earned this new rank," said Chief Raymond Richburg, Commanding Officer of the Bureau of Protective Services Department.
The Bureau of Protective Services specializes in security and policing for the state's executive, legislative, judicial and administrative operations. The department is responsible for the security and safety of the State House and Capitol Complex, the Governor's Mansion, the Governor and his family, while at the mansion, and for numerous state-owned facilities.
Gordon has been in law enforcement for fourteen (14) years. Her career began in 1987 with the Capitol Police, which was at that time under the State Law Enforcement Division. She served five (5) years with the Richmond County Courts in Augusta, Ga., before returning in 1994 to the newly minted Bureau of Protective Services.
Gordon is a Columbia native; she currently resides in North Augusta and has one daughter.
