COLUMBIA -- The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of five people killed on South Carolina highways from Friday, December 8, at 6 p.m. until Sunday, December10, at midnight.
As of December 10, 2006, 975 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 1,032 in 2005. Of the 728 motor vehicle occupants who died in 2006, 443 were not wearing seat belts. These are preliminary numbers and are subject to change.
