COLUMBIA – The South Carolina Department of Public Safety (SCDPS) announces the following event:

 

WHO:  SCDPS and MADD South Carolina will honor law enforcement officials and MADD volunteers from across the state for their efforts to address DUI in South Carolina and support the victims of this crime. The keynote speaker for the event is Solicitor J. Gregory Hembree, president of the S.C. Solicitors’ Association.

 

WHAT: The 2^nd annual DUI Enforcement Recognition Ceremony recognizes efforts accomplished in 2006. Awards will be presented in the following categories:

 

• Agency DUI HERO Awards (Several awards based on agency size)
• Officer DUI HERO Awards (Several awards based on agency size)
• Trooper DUI HERO Award
• S.C. Highway Patrol Troop of the Year
• S.C. State Transport Police Award of Excellence
• S.C. Law Enforcement Network of the Year
• Judicial Circuit of the Year
• Prosecutor of the Year
• Agency of the Year
• Rookie of the Year
• Officer of the Year

           

Nominations have been submitted from around the state, and about 300 people have indicated they will attend this event.  In addition to the law enforcement awards, MADD will recognize its volunteer Community Action Site Leaders.
