COLUMBIA -- The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of nine people killed on South Carolina highways from Friday, July 20, at 6 p.m. until Sunday, July 22, at midnight.
As of July 22, 2007, 593 people died on South Carolina highways, compared to 545 in 2006. Of the 446 motor vehicle occupants who died in 2007, 262 were not wearing seat belts. These are preliminary numbers and are subject to change.
