COLUMBIA -- The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of eight people killed on South Carolina highways from Friday, August 3, at 6 p.m. until Sunday, August 5, at midnight.
As of August 5, 2007, 636 people died on South Carolina highways, compared to 585 in 2006. Of the 481 motor vehicle occupants who died in 2007, 285 were not wearing seat belts. These are preliminary numbers and are subject to change.
