COLUMBIA -- The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of fourteen (14) people killed on South Carolina highways from Friday, August 17, at 6 p.m. until Sunday, August 19, at midnight.
As of August 19, 2007, 694 people died on South Carolina highways, compared to 632 in 2006. Of the 526 motor vehicle occupants who died in 2007, 315 were not wearing seat belts. These are preliminary numbers and are subject to change.
