COLUMBIA -- The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of six people killed on South Carolina highways from Friday, August 24, at 6 p.m. until Sunday, August 26, at midnight.
As of August 26, 2007, 716 people died on South Carolina highways, compared to 654 in 2006. Of the 540 motor vehicle occupants who died in 2007, 322 were not wearing seat belts. These are preliminary numbers and are subject to change.
