COLUMBIA -- The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of eight people killed on South Carolina highways from Friday, August 31, at 6 p.m. until Sunday, September 3, at midnight.
A total of 15 people were killed on South Carolina roads and highways during the 2006 Labor Day period.
As of September 3, 2007, 738 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 677 in 2006. Of the 556 motor vehicle occupants who died in 2007, 327 were not wearing seat belts. These are preliminary numbers and are subject to change.
